MANUFACTURING AN AMERICAN CAR

In 1998 Love called, so guitarist Jeff Todd bailed on his hometown of South San Francisco, CA and headed into the great wide unknown…Massachusetts.

New surroundings and isolation from his bay area musical community encouraged a relentless songwriting bug, and the new tunes flowed. Armed with a suitcase full of songs, he began making connections with New Englands' indie music community.

In a basement jam session, circa 2001, he met bassist Andy Guthrie. Discovering common ground in both the darker side of the classic rock of the 60s and 70s as well as the underground and indie music of the 80s and 90s, the two joined forces in search of a drummer capable of complementing the bombast that would become American Car.

At the first and last gig of the sometimes glorious Hi Desert, Paul Delmonico approached the two, and a band was formed. Soon dubbed American Car, their sound was a colossal amalgam of Jeff's roots rock, punk/funk, and hip hop stylings from the West Coast, Del's deep marination in the jam band scene, and Andy's Boston punk and ska roots.

By 2006 they had a few well-received gigs under their belt at TT the Bears, The Midway Café, O'Brien's, and PA's Lounge, had shared the stage with some of Bostons best bands - Runner and the Thermodynamics, The Damn Personals, Pants Yell, Ms. Pigeon - and a 4 song demo of original songs.

Live, the American Car sound could be described as stripped down, yet powerful, and a little irreverent - falling somewhere between the raw and heavy side of Crazy Horse and the playful awkwardness of The Violent Femmes.

They've got a hollowed out dashboard full of 60 kilos of all-American rock n roll and a full tank of gas.

Hop in.
